My trip started again full of surprises… I was in Kotor, Montenegro and I took a bus to Podgorica, capital city of Montenegro. When I arrived, I felt like I was not going to enjoy this city, so, once I arrived, I decided to buy the first ticket to Skopje (Macedonian capital city). I arrived to Podgorica at 18.30 and the Skopje departure was at 21.30, so in the meanwhile what I did was to look for the first internet coffee and call my friends from Macedonia in order to tell them what time I was going to arrive, because in fact I was going to arrive the 20th in the night but because I saw the Podgorica bus station and I didn’t liked, I changed and took the first bus to Skopje. I was going to arrive the 20th but at 9.30 in the morning.
After internet and waiting a couple of hours, finally the bus to Macedonia arrived and that was the moment that receive a great surprise, once I get into the bus I look for a free place and I met AGAIN Whitney, my American friend which I travelled by 4 countries, was a total coincidence, because when we were in Kotor she decided to go to Bar and I decided to go to Podgorica, but because she didn’t liked Bar, she took the first bus to Kosovo that was the same bus to Skopje, and I was sooooooo lucky I met her because the trip was going to be a hell…
I think that the bus was for sure the worst in my life, full of Albanians and people from Kosovo that bothered us the hole trip, we couldn’t sleep, in each stop when we went out everybody was seeing us, the bus also was 0 confortable… soooo warm, people showing me porno pictures from their cell phones, touching us, they weren’t polite with us, they told us that if we get slept they will steal us. The trip was a total hell, we travelled like chickens. Once we arrived to Kosovo, Whitney in fact was going to Pristine (capital city of Kosovo) but after seeing that the people was horrible and that was at 5 in the morning, she decided to change the bus and come with me to Skopje. In the border between Kosovo and Macedonia, we have been waiting like 1 hour because police in the border was soooo slow and we were very bored because we didn’t slept, it was like 8 in the morning, but well we finally arrived to Skopje and because I was going to куманово (where my friends lives) I went out of the bus before her, the bus stopped in a square where Kumanovo taxi drivers are waiting for carrying people to that city. That was a very stressing moment because once I went out of the bus, I started talking with the taxi driver, but in the moment that I started to talk with the taxi driver, the bus went to the bus station, and I realize that my big bag was still into that bus!!!, so I told to the taxi driver to follow the bus (like in movies hehe) until the bus station… Once we arrived to the bus station I met AGAIN Whitney, she took my bag for me… god bless Whitney because she realized I lost my bag hehe.
After that, with the same taxi I went to Kumanovo where my friends live and in that moment everything started to be perfect as I dream before arriving . I met my friends by internet 3 years ago, they added me to internet because a tv show and I only decided to speak with them just because they were from Macedonia, where my Hero, Alexander the Great born. After making a great friendship by internet with them (in the beginning was Sani, then I started speaking with Simona, Marija, Mimi, Ivana, Katerina and Irena) I decided to come to Europe, that was the light that made me start to think how to come to Europe, then I found an opportunity for studying in Italy, but never mind, the thing is that after 3 years of chat and internet we left to be just a screen in a PC, we met together and we were really happy. They helped me to rent the apartment in Kumanovo.
After meeting in the Kumanovo bus station, we went to buy some burek for breakfast and then, they carried me to the apartment. Once into the apartment I realize that was all decorated with welcome phrases. After having breakfast and taste the best meal in the world (ajvar of course) they left me sleep because I was so tired and after they came to pick up to me in the night for going to the “The Harp”, THE IRISH PUB!!!
During my first (of a lot of times) in the Irish pub I met people that I didn’t knew about their existence or I didn’t spoke enough before coming, but were main actors of this great vacations in Macedonia, one was Zeljko (my bro) the other Mimi (Sani´s b-friend). We had dinner there and started drinking alcohol (as every night) In Kumanovo, most drank alcohols were ракиа (rakia), пиво (beer), specially скопко and cognac with coca-cola.
During the following days, I spent my time eating as a pig, with friends and in all their houses. In my second afternoon I went with Marija to aikido classes just for seeing and taking pictures, I didn’t practiced because I don’t need, as they know I can kill them with only one finger, but that is other story…chan chan… returning again to the writing, mothers cooked for me the most traditional dishes (all of them very good and some of them very spicy). The first time I went to have dinner at Kate´s house, Mare, Kate´s mother prepared гра (gra) in two different ways, in soup and cooked in the oven , then Kate´s aunt came after lunch. After Kate, I went to have dinner at Marija´s place (many times) BUT
the first time her mother cooked a loooooot, like 10 different dishes I eat ајвар (ajvar) that is a kind of cooked blender peppers (my favourite meal), smashed potatoes with peppers, and many other dishes that because I can’t pronounce I can’t remember the name but were very very good. I also went to have lunch at Zeljko´s house where Ance prepared сарма (sarma) and drunk homemade rakia watching the handball world cup. I also went to have dinner to Sani´s house where I eat meso, praz and zeljanik. The last house lunch was at Mimi´s place.
I the middle of that 16 beautiful days in MK, I went to the police station for making the permit of stay in Macedonia, I went with Zeljko, Kate and Sani, and also in the other day I went to make a Kumanovo city tour with Marija, we have been in many places, like the Bazaar, full of colours, the Spomen Kosturnica park (where the bones of the soldiers are) and in Stara Banja park, where Kisela Voda plant is (its water plant), where you can see how the people goes all the time to fill empty bottles with that strange, but very good tasting water.
By the way, because I have been in Macedonia since the 20th of January until the 5th of February, I also celebrated my birthday there, it was incredible, because we celebrate 3 times my birthday. The first time, we celebrated the 28th in the night at my place, my friends prepared me a nice surprise, they blinded my eyes and started to sing the happy birthday song, and also gave me some posters with pictures of all of them, and also a beautiful silver ring and a cross that I’m actually carrying. After that, the 29th, we celebrate at Mare´s place, her mother cooked traditional dishes and I had lunch with mare´s family. Vladimir (mare´s brother), Irena (mare´s sister in love) and Mila (mare´s niece) prepared me also a surprise and gave me like 10 or more cd´s and dvd´s related Macedonia and Balkan music. After that, we went to the living room to use the Playstation and play with Mila, while Irena was always taking funny pictures. We also smoked nargila all together and have fun. Marija prepared the birthday cake.
During the other day (30th of Jan) I went with Marija to скопје (skopje) and we visited the most typical places, like the Stone bridge, the Clock tower in the old train station, the Turkish quarter and also we have been in the opening of the new Mother Teresa´s Museum. During the night, after returning to Kumanovo I celebrate the official b-day party, because was Friday and everybody was able for going out, so I made pizza party, and everybody came was a great party full of friends. The other day, I went to Skopje again, but wit Vladimir and Mila, first we went to Action Park, a place for children, where Mila played a lot and also Vladimir and me because we have been playing ping-pong and other games, so all of us enjoyed it. Then we went to Kale, the Skopje castle, and from there to have lunch and to Zebrnjak, the old Serbian castle 10km far from Kumanovo.
Also during my two weeks in Macedonia I went to dance many times, we have been in electronic music places, and also in underground and turbo folk (turbo shit) places. For the party days we have also been at The old House, Pero has an old house where they use to make parties and other stuffs…
For the last days, we made the “bye bye party” in the old house, BUT something very stupid happened to me. Before leaving Kumanovo I bought my ticket to Rome by internet from Sofia (Bulgaria) it was for the 6th of February, but I bought the bus ticket to Sofia for the 4th, so the mistake was that I wanted to arrive in Sofia the 5th and go directly to the airport, I don’t know why I was confused and celebrated the bye bye party the 3rd thinking that was the 4th. So the other day I was prepared to go to the bus station when Zeljko told me that was 4th of January and not 5th hehe, in that moment we saw each other and said nooooo BIG PROBLEM, so once we realized that I bought the bus ticket for a wrong date, I went with him and Mare to the bus station in order to change my ticket date, and after that I went with Marija to have lunch and to saw how everybody laughed about me and said me you are A
BOLUDO!!! - In the night we went all together to the Irish pub to celebrate the “goodbye party” and after that to sleep at Zeljko´s house.
Now yes, in the last day, I woke up early in the morning just for finishing my bag and to walk a bit by the street before going. I walked with Zeljko and his dog by the Kumanovski river and then to Sani´s place for meeting for the last time (in this trip) all my friends. They gave me a picture and some gifts for my family. After meeting them, we went to the bus station for waiting the bus that was delayed, we were eight, all of them were with me for saying bye bye, I was really happy to see them all together, but I was very sad because I was leaving and I really didn’t want to leave the city. After an emotional departure the bus appeared and went to Sofia.
In resume I went for 10 days to the land of my hero, Александер Македонски-Aleksander Makedonski, for visiting friends, BUT I have been 16 days. I learned the Macedonian Cyrillic alphabet. All people I met (less one) IS INCREDIBLE!!! Very warm people, very happy, welcoming and receptive. My friends treated me like a King, I felt overprotected all the time, I almost couldn’t be alone for more than 2 hours because I always had company. Friends parents were incredible, they cooked for me and all my friends. I think also all of them spent a great time, everything was like it had to be, perfect, I felt very very happy during that period, maybe is difficult to compare, but I think that MK was the best vacations of my life… maybe I went to an small city without many important monuments BUT it has a very strong culture.
I found real friends, people I will never forget and can trust, actually they will be again a PC screen each time I want to speak with them, but now I can say that in the other part of the world, 11000km far from my house there is a Small town called Kumanovo where I have a lot of friends that will be in my heart all my life…
Thank you to Sani, Simona, Mare, Kate,Ivana,Iza,Saska,Elena,Mimi,Zeljko, Pero and all their respective families, I love u all!!!
